Burrell Mining Products, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Burrell Group of New Kensington, PA. The roots of Burrell Mining were first established in July of 1935 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. At that time we were known as Burrell Construction & Supply Company, and we were primarily involved in the highway construction and building supply business.
During the 1980’s Burrell began to market bagged mortar and concrete mixes to the mining industry. Our first customer was Peabody Coal in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. Soon Burrell began doing a tremendous business selling Burrell Bond mortar; a fibered Gunite mix and related products that a decision was made to separate the mining business from the construction company. Burrell Mining Products was incorporated in 1986.
Burrell Mining was approached by the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Spokane, WA to make a roof support block using the fiber technology we were familiar with. After much research and testingFibercrib® was developed and patented. The product was an instant sensation and was eventually used throughout the mining industry. Fibercrib® were made in 9 manufacturing plants around the world.
From the early days when Burrell earned its pedigree for making concrete block, and now being involved in the mining business an idea came about to make a light weight block to be able to build underground ventilation devices. The idea was to make a block that was easier for underground personnel to use, increase productivity and at the same time save on transportation costs. Omega Block was born.
The idea for theCAN® originated in Burrell’s western region. Burrell Mining was involved in roof supports with Fibercrib and light weight blocks, the idea came about to manufacture a superior roof support using all of the best-in-breed qualities. After much testing, The CAN® was developed.
Burrell Mining Products has dedicated itself to innovation with superior service to the mining community. The story continues as we go forward.
